Most inner-west homes are wired for a house that no longer exists.
The weatherboards and bungalows between Newport and Yarraville were wired for a light, a radio and maybe a kettle. Since then they have picked up reverse-cycle heating, an induction cooktop, a second bathroom, a studio out the back and now a car that wants charging overnight — usually on the same mains and the same ceramic fuses.
That is why almost every job we quote starts at the switchboard. Once the main switch, the earthing and the RCBO protection are sorted, adding circuits is straightforward. Doing it the other way round is how a renovation ends up with a board full of piggybacked connections nobody wants to open.

Test and certify
Testing on completion, the Certificate of Electrical Safety for prescribed work, and a board legend written up before we leave.
